{"id":5808,"date":"2025-10-03T09:04:20","date_gmt":"2025-10-03T09:04:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/devalayanews.com\/?p=5808"},"modified":"2025-10-03T09:04:22","modified_gmt":"2025-10-03T09:04:22","slug":"flood-alert-heavy-rain-and-sudden-flooding-expected-in-koshi-madhesh-and-bagmati-provinces","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/devalayanews.com\/?p=5808","title":{"rendered":"Flood Alert: Heavy Rain and Sudden Flooding Expected in Koshi, Madhesh, and Bagmati Provinces"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Kathmandu \u2013 The <strong>Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM)<\/strong> has issued a warning of possible <strong>sudden flooding<\/strong> in rivers flowing through <strong>Koshi, Madhesh, and Bagmati provinces<\/strong> between <strong>Saturday and Monday<\/strong>, urging the public to exercise special caution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the department\u2019s notice issued two days earlier, water levels in major rivers including the <strong>Koshi, Kamala, Bagmati, and Narayani<\/strong>, along with their tributaries, are expected to rise significantly and may approach danger levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The statement further mentioned: <em>\u201cSmall rivers and streams originating from the Mahabharat and Chure ranges in Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces may also experience sudden surges in water flow.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>High-Risk Districts<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The DHM has identified 17 districts at high risk of sudden flooding:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Bagmati Province:<\/strong> Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Kavre, Sindhupalchok, Rasuwa, Makwanpur, Chitwan<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Koshi Province:<\/strong> Sankhuwasabha, Taplejung, Ilam, Jhapa, Morang<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Madhesh Province:<\/strong> Bara, Parsa, Rautahat, Sarlahi<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>People in these areas and nearby districts have been urged to remain on high alert from Saturday to Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Travel Advisory<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Given the risk of <strong>floods, landslides, soil erosion, and inundation<\/strong>, the department has requested travelers to exercise extreme caution while using both <strong>road and air transport<\/strong>, especially as thousands of people are traveling across the country for the Dashain festival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Cause of the Weather System<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Meteorologists reported that a <strong>low-pressure system developed over the Bay of Bengal<\/strong> is shifting from Odisha towards central India.
