The Nepal Stock Exchange (Nepse) continued its downward trend for the second straight day. After falling by 58 points on Tuesday, the benchmark index dropped again by 45.36 points on Wednesday, closing at 2,559.59 points, down by 1.74 percent.
Despite the decline in the index, the trading volume increased compared to the previous day. The total turnover rose from Rs 4.62 billion on Tuesday to Rs 5.76 billion on Wednesday, with 13.7 million shares traded, according to the Nepal Stock Exchange.
On the day, the share prices of 18 companies increased, while 232 declined and one remained unchanged. The top gainers included Sangrila Development Bank Debenture, Nepal Investment Mega Debenture, Atmanirbhar Laghubitta, Three Star Hydropower, and SBL Debenture, each rising by up to 7.09 percent.
Meanwhile, major losers included Prabhu Insurance, Manjushree Finance, First Microfinance, Sayapatri Hydropower, and RBB Mutual Fund, which fell by as much as 6.12 percent.
In terms of transaction volume, Nepal Reinsurance Company (Nepal Re) led the market with shares worth Rs 260 million traded, followed by Union Hydropower, which recorded Rs 240 million in transactions.
