Home Secretary Rameshwar Dangal has urged the private sector to stay prepared with rescue and relief materials in light of forecasts of moderate to heavy rainfall. He emphasized that the role of non-governmental actors would be crucial in minimizing loss of life and property.
During a virtual disaster dialogue, Dangal informed that strict measures and preparedness would be enforced along highways for emergency management, as heavy rainfall is expected in areas from Koshi to Lumbini Province until October 6 (Asoj 20).
Experts and representatives of organizations participating in the dialogue stressed the need for rapid information dissemination based on weather and river conditions.
Chief of the Disaster Risk Reduction Authority, Dinesh Bhatt, said that agreements had already been made with the private sector for the use of helicopters, drones, boats, and other resources, and support would be available if needed.
Meteorologists have warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall in various parts of Koshi, Madhes, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces on October 4 and 5 (Asoj 18 and 19).
