On the day of Ashwin Shukla Trayodashi, the tradition of visiting elders’ homes to receive Dashain Tika and blessings as the offering (Prasad) of Goddess Navadurga continues.
After nine days of worship and devotion, the ritual of offering Prasad and receiving blessings from elders begins on Vijaya Dashami following the immersion of the goddess, and it continues until Kojagrat Purnima. Those who could not visit elders on the first day usually do so by the full moon day.
In some districts of western Nepal, however, there is a practice of offering Prasad and receiving blessings only on Vijaya Dashami day. According to the Nepal Panchang Nirnayak Samiti (Calendar Determination Committee), scriptures also mention that the Prasad of Goddess Navadurga can be offered until Kojagrat Purnima, as long as the Akhil Balipuja (complete sacrificial rituals) has not been performed.
