Nepal Stock Market to Reopen from Tuesday After Weather Disruptions

Due to continuous heavy rainfall, the government had declared public holidays on Ashwin 19 and 20 (October 6 and 7, 2025). As a result, the stock market, which had been closed during this period, is set to reopen from Tuesday, Ashwin 21 (October 8, 2025). NEPSE has issued a notice confirming that secondary market trading will resume on that day.

Although all offices in Kathmandu district reopened from Monday, Ashwin 20, the stock market will begin trading only from Tuesday. With improvements in weather conditions, the government shortened the public holiday by one day and instructed all offices to resume operations. However, NEPSE clarified that trading will only commence the following day.

The market, which was expected to resume regular operations from Sunday after the long Dashain holiday, faced another disruption due to adverse weather conditions. The government had earlier closed financial institutions, government offices, and educational institutions for two days to prioritize rescue and relief efforts amid continuous heavy rainfall across the country.

Investors had anticipated increased activity and higher trading volume after Dashain, but the repeated interruptions have heightened uncertainty among them. Experts note that a short-term closure is unlikely to have a major negative impact on the overall market, though investor sentiment has been affected. They expect fluctuations in trading during the first days after the market reopens due to consecutive holidays and unstable weather conditions.
