Tika Ceremony Continues on Second Day of Dashain

The tradition of receiving Tika continued on Friday, the second day of Dashain. Following the Vijaya Dashami rituals, where the red Tika—a symbol of auspiciousness—and Jamara—a symbol of prosperity—are applied by elders, people continued visiting relatives to receive Tika today.

After applying the sacred offerings at home or in the puja room for nine days of worship, Thursday saw families performing Tika ceremonies, while Friday brought more activity to the markets as people went to relatives’ homes.

On Ghatasthapana, the ceremonial vessel established at the beginning of Dashain is ritually consecrated following Vedic rituals, culminating in the application of Tika on Vijaya Dashami.

The Vijaya Dashami festival, celebrated on Ashwin Shukla Dashami, is marked with joy as elders apply Tika and Jamara as blessings from Goddess Durga. Those unable to receive Tika on Thursday can still do so during Kojagrat Purnima, once all rituals including Akhil Bali are completed.
