On the occasion of Vijaya Dashami, devotees across various parts of Kapilvastu district immersed Goddess Durga idols with grandeur, accompanied by traditional music, dances, and rituals in local rivers and streams.
During Dashain, idols displayed in town squares, marketplaces, and villages of the district’s ten municipalities were immersed following special rituals and offerings on Navaratri. In some places, idols were installed from Ghatasthapana, while in many areas, they were established on Saptami after special worship.
According to the District Administration Office, a total of 496 Durga idols had been installed across Kapilvastu’s ten municipalities. These idols, crafted at costs ranging from NPR 10,000 to over 100,000, were immersed in rivers such as Ramghat, Lakshmanghat, Surai Bel River, Banganga, and other streams.
The immersion ceremonies were carried out over two days — Dashami and Ekadashi. On Thursday, idols from the Krishnanagar–Maharajganj area were immersed. Devotees believe that fasting and worshiping Goddess Durga during Navaratri helps fulfill one’s wishes. Festive fairs were also held at several immersion sites.
Security Arrangements
With the possibility of untoward incidents, heavy security was deployed. Krishnanagar was declared a highly sensitive area, where drones, CCTV cameras, and a large number of security personnel were mobilized. District Security Committee officials were also present to oversee safety.
Chief District Officer Dilkumar Tamang said peace and security measures were strengthened to prevent clashes or disturbances during the immersion. He confirmed that no untoward incident took place during the process.
In Taulihawa and surrounding areas, tableaux (jhankis) were paraded around the town before immersion at Ramghat. According to the administration, immersions will continue sporadically until Ashwin 21.
District Police Superintendent Santosh Acharya stated that the idol immersions throughout the Dashain period concluded peacefully across the district.
