Water Level Rises in Saptakoshi River, 15 Barrage Gates Opened

Continuous rainfall since Saturday morning has caused the water level of the Saptakoshi River to rise significantly.

According to DSP Dambar Bahadur Puri, spokesperson of Saptari District Police Office, the water flow at the Saptakoshi Barrage, located between Saptari and Sunsari districts, has reached 109,360 cusecs per second.

With the increase in flow, 15 out of 56 gates of the barrage were opened by tonight. Earlier in the afternoon, the water flow was recorded at 102,035 cusecs.

Authorities have warned that due to ongoing heavy rainfall in the Terai-Madhesh and eastern hilly districts, the water level may continue to rise further. The local administration has urged residents living near the barrage area to remain alert and take necessary precautions.
