Continuous rainfall in the eastern hilly and Terai districts has caused a sharp rise in the water level of the Saptakoshi River.
According to Chief District Officer (CDO) Dharmendra Kumar Mishra, the water flow measured at 11:00 AM today was 510,960 cusecs per second, which later increased to 533,540 cusecs per second.
Due to the high water flow, all 56 gates of the Koshi Barrage have been opened. As a warning signal, red lights have been activated and a red flag hoisted. Vehicular movement around the Koshi Barrage has also been restricted.
Meanwhile, a joint inspection of the Koshi Barrage was carried out today by a Nepali team led by CDO Mishra, along with security personnel, and a team from the Water Resources Department of Bihar, India.
