Continuous rainfall has triggered landslides in Panchthar district, killing two people and injuring three others. According to the District Police Office, the landslides occurred in different locations on Saturday night following heavy downpours, causing loss of life and property.
Police reported that a landslide buried the house of 79-year-old Kanchhi Maya Sherma of Tumbewa Rural Municipality–4, killing her on the spot. Similarly, 17-year-old Misek Nembang of Phalgunanda Rural Municipality–3 died after being swept away by the Nibu Khola.
Police Inspector and Panchthar Police spokesperson Rupesh Tamang confirmed the fatalities and added that three others were injured: 37-year-old Manmaya Karki of Miklajung Rural Municipality–3 Solumba, 66-year-old Dhan Bahadur Chemjong of Phalgunanda–5 Jaubari, and 72-year-old Sukumaya Angdembe of Phalgunanda–1 Aluwari.
The injured are receiving treatment at local health facilities, while the bodies of the deceased have been taken to Panchthar Hospital for postmortem. Authorities have warned that the risk of floods and landslides remains high across the district due to continuous rainfall, urging residents to stay alert.
